Buttermere Boarding

We're Shannon and Ryan, and we run Buttermere Boarding from our home in Heywood. We offer a cosy, home-from-home experience, ensuring your dog is cared for as part of our family. Unlike traditional kennels, we focus on providing mostly one-on-one care—though we may occasionally board dogs from different households together, but only with consent from both owners and on a first come, first served basis—so your pet receives dedicated attention in a comfortable, stress-free environment.

Our Process

Meet & Greet (Optional)

New clients are welcome to schedule an optional meet & greet at our home, where your dog can explore the space and get to know us in a calm, friendly atmosphere before their first stay.

Registration

Once you’re ready to proceed, you’ll complete detailed registration forms covering your dog’s medical history, feeding preferences, and personality traits. This helps us tailor our care to your dog’s individual needs.

Trial Night (Mandatory)

To ensure boarding is suitable for your dog, every new dog must complete a charged £35 one-night trial stay. This allows us to observe how they settle into our home and ensures they’re comfortable and stress-free. Boarding isn’t always suitable for all dogs, and we prioritise their comfort and well-being above all else. Dogs must also be comfortable sleeping on their own bed, which helps them feel secure during their stay.

Repeat bookings

Once your dog has completed the initial process, booking with us again is quick and simple. Just message us on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or contact us through our website with your preferred dates. As long as we have your dog's up-to-date vaccination certificate on file, we'll reserve the dates for you if they're available.

FAQ

Do you accept puppies, seniors, or dogs with special needs?

Absolutely! We welcome both puppies and senior dogs and have plenty of experience caring for dogs at every stage of life.

My dog is healthy, why do they need to be vaccinated?

Even healthy dogs need up-to-date vaccinations to protect both them and other dogs they might encounter. Vaccinations help prevent serious diseases that can spread quickly, especially when dogs are in new environments or around other pets. It's also a licensing requirement that we must follow as a licensed boarding facility - all dogs in our care need to be properly vaccinated by law. This policy helps keep every dog safe and gives all our clients peace of mind knowing their pets are protected.

What if my dog has unique requirements?

Every dog is different, and we'd love to hear about any special considerations your pet might have. Feel free to reach out on whatsapp or messenger so we can chat about how to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Where will my dog sleep?

We ask you to bring your dogs bed and that they're comfortable sleeping on this at night. We find this helps them feel secure and settled during their stay with us. If your dog usually sleeps on your bed then please make us aware during registration.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Heywood and welcome dogs from Heywood and the surrounding areas including Rochdale, Middleton, Bury, Oldham, and nearby Greater Manchester communities.

How far in advance should I book?

Because we focus on providing mostly one-on-one care, our availability can be first come, first served at times. To avoid missing out, it's always best to book as soon as you have something planned - this gives you complete peace of mind that your dog's care is all sorted.

Why do you require a trial night and how do you assess it?

The trial night helps us see how your dog settles into our home environment and ensures they feel comfortable and relaxed away from home. We observe how they adapt to our routine, interact with the space, and whether boarding feels like the right fit for them. It's all about making sure they're happy and stress-free. This is a licensing requirement.
